New Zealand is suffering from a shortage of Plumbers. According to a recent report on TV3 Newshub, in the next two years there will be a plumber shortfall of 59 percent in Auckland which means the region will be 601 plumbers short. It’s starting to spread into other areas as well.
Some reasons for this were the greater length of apprenticeships (up to 6 years), the lack of funding for apprenticeships in the industry, and general apathy or ignorance towards the trade among young people.
If the problem is not addressed, this could lead to increased costs for plumbing work and more delays in finding a plumber.
As Steven Joyce of MBIE said the situation will hopefully improve within two years but “if anyone wants to enter the Plumbing Trade, now would be a good time!”

We definitely need more plumbers around! Everyone in the trade is busy and looking to spread the work load as much as possible.
